Tsurkan Karina Valerevna

In June 2018, a 43-year-old local resident, member of the board of directors of PAO Inter RAO Karina Tsirkun, was detained in Moscow. She was accused of espionage. According to the prosecution's version, the top manager of the energy company "Inter RAO" Karina Tsurkan was recruited by Moldovan special services in 2004, and in 2015 she passed on information to them about the supply of electricity to Ukraine. The main evidence in the case were poorly readable "agent questionnaires" of the Moldovan special services, containing many inaccurate or outdated data with obvious signs of forgery, as well as letters from FSB employees, which baselessly reported that Tsurkan worked for foreign special services. On June 15, 2018, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow chose detention as a measure of restraint for the defendant in the case, and she was placed in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. On December 29, 2020, the Moscow City Court found Karina Tsurkan guilty and sentenced her to 15 years in a general regime colony. June 23, 2021, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
