Case Description
The court in Donetsk sentenced four Ukrainian servicemen in a case involving shelling of the southern part of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was reported to TASS by the press service of the regional prosecutor's office. The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic passed a verdict in a criminal case against servicemen of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: 34-year-old Konstantin Globa, 54-year-old Gennady Trufin, 35-year-old Roman Stepanyuk, and 25-year-old Yevgeny Andrienko. They were found guilty under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraphs "a", "e", "zh", "l" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted murder of two or more persons committed by an organized group, using a generally dangerous method, motivated by political or ideological hatred), Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruel treatment of the civilian population in occupied territory), Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (willful destruction or damage to property causing significant damage, committed using a generally dangerous method)," the prosecutor's office reported. Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Globa to 19 years of imprisonment, Trufin and Andrienko to 21 years of imprisonment, and Stepanyuk to 20 years in a strict regime colony. The court established that from February 24 to 28, 2022, Globa, Trufin, Andrienko, and Stepanyuk, while at a combat position located in the village of Shirokino in the south of the DPR, shelled the village of Sahanka in the Novoazovsk district with fragmentation-fragmentation mines. As a result of the shelling, a man was wounded, eight civilian infrastructure facilities and a vehicle were damaged. The Investigative Committee's press service noted that the defendants were aware that they were shelling the civilian population and civilian infrastructure facilities using heavy offensive weapons with high destructive properties. On April 12, 2022, in Mariupol, in the occupied part of the Donetsk region, four Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the mortar battery of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Sergey Mishenko, Artem Zhura, Denis Sivets, and Gennady Trufin - were taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. They were accused of cruel treatment of the civilian population, willful damage to property, and attempted murder of two or more persons committed by an organized group, using a generally dangerous method, motivated by political and ideological hatred. Sergey Mishenko and Denis Sivets were also accused of organizing these crimes.
