Case Description
On July 11, 2023, documentary filmmaker Vsevolod Korolev was detained in St. Petersburg. He was accused of spreading knowingly false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation motivated by political hatred." "According to the investigation, from March 15 to April 12, 2022, Korolev posted two posts on VKontakte that constitute "false information about the actions of Russian servicemen in Ukraine": about mass killings of civilians in Bucha, Borodyanka, as well as about shelling Donetsk. July 13, the Vyborg District Court sent Korolev to a pre-trial detention center. On March 20, 2024, Judge Marina Goryacheva of the Vyborgsky District Court of St. Petersburg found Vsevolod Korolev guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in a general regime colony with a ban on administering websites for a period of 4 years. 2 July 2024, Judge Tatyana Yalcevich of the St. Petersburg City Court increased the sentence and sentenced Vsevolod Korolev to 7 years in prison.
