Case Description

Coordinators of the 'Vesna' movement are suspected of involvement in a non-commercial organization whose activities are associated with inciting citizens to refuse to fulfill civic duties or to commit other unlawful acts.

Criminal cases were opened on June 5, 2023, in Barnaul, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, and Tver against Vasily Neustroyev, Yan Ksenzhepolsky, Evgeny Zateyev, Valentin Khoroshenin, Anna Arkhipova, Pavel Sinelnikov, and other participants of the 'Vesna' movement. On June 6, 2023, law enforcement officers detained the defendants.

They were charged with spreading 'fake news' about the Russian army out of political enmity as part of an organized group, creating an extremist community and participating in it, inciting mass riots, and engaging in activities directed against the state's security. The defendants were also accused of leading and participating in the activities of a non-commercial organization that violates the personality and rights of citizens, rehabilitates Nazism, and discredits the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, no later than December 19, 2021, leaders and participants of the 'Vesna' movement created an extremist community. The prosecution claims that the defendants published a manifesto with a program that was designed to obstruct the activities of government bodies and cause harm to the country's defense. Law enforcement officers believe that the community members incited citizens to mass riots, spread false information about the army's activities, and rehabilitated Nazism through social media posts.

On June 8, 2023, courts in Moscow remanded Neustroyev, Yan, Zateyev, Khoroshenin, Arkhipova, and Pavel into pre-trial detention. Earlier, on May 10 and 11, 2022, some of them were imposed with restrictions on certain actions.

Bogdan Litvin, Gleb Kondratiev, Makar Dyakonov, and others were declared wanted.

On April 8, 2026, the St. Petersburg City Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Anna Arkhipova to 12 years in prison, Yan Ksenzhepolsky to 11 years, Vasily Neustroyev to 10 years, Pavel Sinelnikov to 7 years and 6 months. Evgeny Zateyev and Valentin Khoroshenin were each sentenced to 6 years and 2 months in prison.

On October 8, 2026, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict without changes.
