Case Description

Russian military abducted two Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - 31-year-old Serhii Fedosenko and 33-year-old Vladyslav Vodolazskyi - in Berdiansk, occupied Zaporizhzhia region, on August 20, 2022. Later, on March 23, 2023, Russian military detained 48-year-old Vitalii Dziuba. The Ukrainians are accused of illegal manufacture of explosives and terrorism, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. According to the Russian investigation, Fedosenko and Vodolazskyi in April 2022 manufactured an improvised explosive device to attack a checkpoint of Russian servicemen in the city of Tokmak, seize their weapons with the aim of killing other servicemen. Fedosenko asked his acquaintance Vitalii Dziuba to help find components for the IED. The attack was planned for August 20, 2022 - when the men headed to the checkpoint, they were detained. According to the lawyers, Fedosenko and Vodolazskyi "gave confessions without a lawyer, with a bag over their heads." On December 19, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Serhii Fedosenko to 15 years imprisonment in a strict regime colony with the first 3 years to be served in prison and a fine of 450 thousand rubles, Vladyslav Vodolazskyi - 13 years strict regime with the first 3 years to be served in prison and a fine of 350 thousand rubles, and Vitalii Dziuba - 10 years strict regime with a fine of 130 thousand rubles.
