Case Description
In May 2023, in the city of Sudzha, Kursk region, a 20-year-old judoka from Tolyatti, Radik Makayev, was detained. According to the security forces, the man wanted to join the 'Freedom of Russia' legion. A criminal case was opened against Makayev for preparation for state treason, attempted illegal crossing of the state border, and preparation for participation in a terrorist organization, and he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On April 19, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Radik Makayev guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. 2 years of which Zakayev must spend in prison, the remaining - in a strict regime colony. On July 24, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the verdict.
