Case Description
In the Kirovsky district of St. Petersburg on Novostroek Street, on August 20, 2023, a 25-year-old cleaner of the service premises of the Philharmonic named after was detained. Shostakovich Fyodor Konovalov. According to law enforcement officers, during a personal search, three leaflets were found on him calling for joining the "Russian Volunteer Corps" and the "Freedom of Russia" legion. Also, correspondence with a 'curator' about collecting money for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was found on the detained person's phone. The Investigative Committee's Directorate for the Kirovsky District of St. Petersburg initiated a criminal case against Konovalov for calls for terrorism using the Internet. According to the investigation, using the Internet" consisted of Konovalov downloading leaflet layouts from the network. 23 August, the Kirovsky District Court of St. Petersburg sent him to a pre-trial detention center. It later became known that there is a second defendant in the case - 23-year-old musician Ivan Ladchenko. He was detained on October 16, 2023. The Kirovsky District Court of St. Petersburg repeatedly extended Ladchenko's house arrest. In addition to the charges of calling for terrorism, both men were charged with participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and assisting terrorist activities. According to the investigation, the men established contact with Ukrainian 'curators' and received money from them to produce and distribute leaflets calling for joining the RDK and the 'Freedom of Russia' legion. On October 3, 2024, the 1st Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Fyodor Konovalov and Ivan Ladchenko to 11 years of imprisonment." "The first 3 years they must spend in prison, the remaining ones - in a strict regime colony. Also, men were forbidden to engage in website administration. Ladczenko was taken into custody in the courtroom. February 19, 2025, the Appellate Military Court mitigated Konovalov's sentence to 10 years and 9 months and Ladchenko's to 10 years and 8 months."
