Case Description
In the occupied Mariupol of the Zaporizhzhia region, no later than April 6, 2022 (the exact date is unknown), military personnel of the 36th separate brigade of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fell into captivity to Russian military personnel: 24-year-old Artem Buchkovskyi, 27-year-old Vladislav Stryukov, 26-year-old Ilya Galchukov, 28-year-old Vladislav Sergeychuk, 29-year-old Sergey Knizhnik, 36-year-old Sergey Krivtsov, and 37-year-old Alexander Matushanskyi. Subsequently, the Russian investigation opened a criminal case against the Ukrainians for attempted murder committed by an organized group, motivated by political, ideological hatred), cruel treatment of prisoners of war and civilian population in the occupied territory and intentional infliction of moderate bodily harm, committed with particular cruelty, by an organized group, motivated by political, ideological hatred, using an object used as a weapon. The prisoner of war was later released. No later than October 17, 2023 (the exact date is unknown), the Supreme Court of the Donetsk Republic found the defendants guilty and sentenced Artem Buchkovsky to 22 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony, Vladislav Stryukov to 20 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony, Ilya Galchukov, Sergey Knizhnik, Sergey Krivtsun, Alexander Matushansky, and Vladislav Sergeychuk to 16 years in a strict regime colony. Only Ilya Galchukov appealed the verdict. On March 19, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction reduced his sentence to 12 years in a strict regime. September 13, 2024, Vladislav Stryukov was released as a result of a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
