In early October 2023, a local 18-year-old resident, student Igor Lushko, was detained in the Novosibirsk region. He was accused of treason, attempted sabotage, and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, Lushko filled out and sent an application form for joining the Ukrainian paramilitary unit Legion "Freedom of Russia" via email, after which he began corresponding with a certain curator who assigned him the task of systematically carrying out sabotage on Russian territory. Carrying out one of these assignments, in September 2023, Lushko, being "negatively disposed towards the conduct of the special military operation, set fire to an electrical substation on the stretch between the stations Inya-Vostochnaya and Mochische. It is claimed that the damage to Russian Railways amounted to more than 740 thousand. rub. During another assignment, the accused took photographs of the facilities of a military unit and the military equipment located there. Lushko, according to law enforcement officers, was preparing a sabotage on the territory of one of the Novosibirsk military units - he allegedly intended to set fire to military equipment. When he returned there to repeat the filming, Lushko was detained. The student was sent to a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation. On July 4, 2024, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Igor Lushko guilty and sentenced the Novosibirsk resident to 20 years in prison. For the first five years, Lushko will spend time in prison, and the remaining sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. On March 5, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged."
