Case Description
In Yekaterinburg, in early September 2023, three 19-year-old local residents — Danila Alekseyev, Arseniy Klimin, and Nikita Sukhorukov — were detained. All three were charged with attempted terrorist attack, group conspiracy.
According to the investigation, the young people allegedly planned to commit sabotage at the Putevka, Shuvakish, and Apparatnaya stations. In late August, Sukhorukov was supposed to photograph transport infrastructure facilities, and later hack and set them on fire.
Klimin took on the responsibilities of organizing terrorist acts, carrying them out by setting fire to railway equipment to create social tension and instability in Russian authorities, the prosecution claims. The young man also sought new participants for their group.
According to the charges, Arseniy Klimin, who was looking for a job in Nizhny Tagil, was contacted through Telegram by an unknown person, Andrey Martynov, allegedly linked to the 'Freedom of Russia' Legion. Martynov offered Klimin a 'job' — committing terrorist acts as part of an organized group in favor of Ukraine.
Later, Arseniy met Danila Yeliseyev in an online video game and proposed that he carry out terrorist acts. From July 1 to August 9, Yeliseyev joined the group and shared Klimin's recruitment duties. At the same time, Danila recruited Nikita Sukhorukov. Under Martynov's instructions, Sukhorukov purchased means for committing terrorist acts and also committed video documentation of crimes to hinder the continuation of the 'SVO'. To commit sabotage, Sukhorukov used a hammer, matches, and other items.
Arseniy Klimin is convinced that he was recruited via Telegram by FSB officers for 'extra-contractual assistance' — identifying 'unreliable elements capable of committing sabotage for the benefit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine'. During interrogation, Klimin claimed that he acted under the orders of TsPE employee Evgeny Pastukhov, who in April 2023 gave the task to establish contacts with people who would organize terrorist acts in Russia. Pastukhov sent him links to the Legion's social media 'to obtain valuable information on counteracting extremism.'
On September 7, 2023, the Verkh-Issetsky Court sent the young people to pre-trial detention.
On May 19, 2025, the Central Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Arseniy Klimin to 8 years, Danila Yeliseyev and Nikita Sukhorukov to 7 years, 4 of which they must serve in prison, the remainder in a strict-regime colony.
On March 26, 2026, the Appellate Military Court upheld the verdict.
