Case Description
In the city of Vyterga in the Vologda region at the end of March 2024, 17-year-old local resident Anton Dunayev was detained. According to law enforcement, the young man, experiencing dissatisfaction with the current authorities and the policies pursued by the Russian Federation, joined the Legion "Freedom of Russia. He allegedly pasted leaflets made by him with 'bad inscriptions about the President of the Russian Federation and good ones about Navalny' on the walls of administrative buildings, garbage containers, and lighting poles. Early in the morning on March 6, he hung a leaflet threatening to blow up the military enlistment office on the day of the presidential election at the city administration building. March 21, 2024, Dunayev allegedly painted graffiti beginning with the words: "LSR..." on the wall of a store building; "SVO is genocide..." on the wall of the administration building and on the market building, as well as painted graffiti beginning with the words: "Losses in the SVO..." on a fence. A criminal case was opened against the teenager for participating in a terrorist organization. The court sent him to a pre-trial detention center. Later, the charges were toughened — articles on false reporting of a terrorist act, attempted terrorist act, and treason were added. On December 24, 2024, the 1st Western Military District Court found Anton Dunayev guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in a general regime penal colony. The court also banned him from administering websites on the Internet for 2 years. 14 May 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
