Case Description
In the Kursk region, servicemen of the 64th separate rifle battalion of the 44th separate mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ivan Furlet, Yuriy Zadoyny, Yuriy Sychenko and Yuriy Khayuk were taken prisoner. The date of capture is unknown. Later, criminal charges of terrorism were brought against the servicemen. According to the Russian investigation, at the beginning of August 2024, Furlet, Zadorozhny, Sychenko, and Khayuk, armed with automatic and large-caliber firearms, as well as explosive devices, illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. In the village of Snagost, Korenevsky District, Kursk Region, the defendants allegedly intimidated and terrorized the local population, occupied private houses with threats of using weapons, prohibited the movement of civilians, and repeatedly opened fire on both Russian servicemen and civilians. During the investigation, military personnel were placed in "prisoner of war detention facilities." On March 5, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Ivan Furlet, Yuriy Zadorozhnyy, Yuriy Sychenko, and Yuriy Khayuk to 17 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
