Case Description
In the Kursk Oblast on September 26, 2024, during combat operations, two Ukrainian citizens - 22-year-old Yuriy Maslyukov and 23-year-old Dmitry Ignatenko - were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Dmitry was wounded, and their fellow serviceman - Igor Khomenko - was killed on the spot. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on August 29, 2024, Ignatenko and Maslyukov, having with them AK-74 and AKM assault rifles, as well as UAR-10M semi-automatic sniper rifles and explosive devices, illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. Russian servicemen "intimidated the local population, under threat of using weapons, occupied private houses, prohibited civilians from moving, and repeatedly opened fire on both Russian servicemen and civilians" in the territory of Glukhkovsky and Korenevsky districts of the Kursk region. On February 20, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Dmitry Ignatenko to 14 years in prison and Yuri Maslyukov to 15 years. The first 3 years they must serve in prison, and the remaining part - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
