Case Description
In the Kursk region on March 8, 2025, during hostilities, Ukrainian citizens, soldiers of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Derevyanko, Sergey Golubnichenko and Yuriy Konogray, were taken prisoner by Russian military. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, from September 2024 to March 2025, Derevyanko, Golubnichenko, and Konogray, armed with automatic weapons, ammunition, and grenades, repeatedly crossed the Russian state border in the Kursk region as part of units on Stryker armored personnel carriers. To "block and hold" the village of Cherkaskoye Porechnoye in the Sudzhansky district, they equipped observation and fire positions, tracked the movement of Russian servicemen, intimidated civilians and prevented their evacuation." On August 12, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Yuriy Konogray to 15 years of imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony, Sergey Golubnichenko to 16 years of imprisonment, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony, and Aleksandr Derevyanko to 17 years of imprisonment, with the first 5 years to be served in prison, the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
