Case Description
On April 22, 2025, a search was conducted in the apartment of 65-year-old local resident Yuriy Avsenev in Voronezh. A criminal case was opened against him for calls to extremism. According to security forces, Avsenev, under a portrait of Zelensky with a German eagle on his head, left the inscription "Death to fascist occupiers with AK" for the group "False Reality, and under another inscription - "Glory to Ukraine." 1. For the same comments left by Avsenev in 2023, on May 7, 2024, he had already received 24 hours of arrest for 'extremist symbolism.' Now, a linguistic examination has identified a criminal "crime" in the same words. During the arrival of the security forces, the man did not take the search protocol. He explained that he agreed with the investigator, who advised him to plead guilty in order to avoid being arrested. Avseneva was released on her own recognizance. In mid-August 2025, at the request of FSB investigator Vasilenko, the court placed the man in a psychiatric hospital. This happened the day after Avseenko, who was under investigation, visited the trial of another activist, Angela Gushchina, who was accused of 'discrediting the army'. On September 26, 2025, the Leninsky District Court of Voronezh ruled to release Yuriy Avsenev from punishment and apply compulsory medical measures to him. On December 2, 2025, the Voronezh Regional Court upheld the court's decision.
