Case Description
In Belarus on March 5, 2024, 25-year-old Russian Julia Tretiakova was detained. The KGB officers handed the girl over to the Russian security forces, and after that, Tretyakova was transferred to the Murmansk pre-trial detention center. A criminal case was opened against Tretiakova for attempted state treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, the girl filled out questionnaires to join the 'Freedom of Russia' legion and tried to leave for Ukraine through Belarus. Yulia herself claims that she wanted to find her relatives and help them, not take up arms. On December 6, 2024, the Northern Fleet Military Court found Yuliya Tretyakova guilty and sentenced her to 12.5 years in a general regime penal colony. On March 10, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
