Case Description
In Melitopol, in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, on April 4, 2023, a local 44-year-old resident, a citizen of Ukraine and wife of a Ukrainian serviceman, Yulia Koveshnikova, was abducted and held in a basement for several months. Subsequently, Russian security forces accused her of espionage. According to the investigation, from June 2022 to January 2023, Koveshnikova collected and passed on to her partner, who was serving in the armed forces of Ukraine, information about the location of personnel, equipment, and weapons of the Temporary Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Zaporizhzhia region. 11 December 2023, after 8 months of illegal extrajudicial detention, Koveshnikov was placed in a remand prison. No later than June 11, 2024, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found Yulia Koveshnikova guilty and sentenced her to 13 years of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony. There is no information about appealing the verdict.
