In St. Petersburg on 17 July 2024, 40-year-old local resident Yaroslav Rechkalov was detained." An criminal case was opened against him for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, Rechkalov, being opposed to the "special military operation, sharing the ideas of Ukrainian nationalist structures, experiencing "a feeling of distortedly interpreted ideological unity with the leaders and participants of the Ukrainian paramilitary association Legion "Freedom of Russia, from January to February 29, 2024, decided to participate in the activities of this organization. To do this, he contacted a legionnaire with the nickname "Kaluga" in the messenger and received instructions from him on the procedure for joining its ranks. No later than May 20, 2024, in the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg, Rechkalov recorded a video of the oath on his phone, which he then sent via messenger to a representative of the legion. Thus, Rechkalov took part in the activities of an organization that, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, is recognized as a terrorist organization.
