Case Description
25 November 2024, a 37-year-old Ukrainian serviceman, Yaroslav Chernyak, was taken prisoner by Russian soldiers in the Donetsk region. He was accused of participating in a terrorist community. According to the investigation, on July 24, 2024, Chernyak "in order to carry out terrorist activities joined" the 24th Separate Assault Battalion "Aidar. From September to November 2024, while in the city of Druzhkovka and the settlement of Ivanovskoye, he, as part of the battalion, used firearms against servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. On July 22, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Yaroslav Chernyak guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in prison, the first 3 years of which he will serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. On December 2, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
