Case Description
In Moscow at the end of July 2022, at the behest of Bastrykin, a criminal case was opened for inciting interethnic hatred against Ukrainian journalist Yanina Sokolova. According to the Russian investigation, on August 5, 2022, the journalist "with the aim of influencing people's consciousness" gave an interview to the program "Goverit velikiy Lvov" of the Ukrainian TV channel NTA, during which she "justified violent actions against Russians. On December 10 of the same year, she made a public statement on the YouTube channel 'Vecher s Yaninoy Sokolovoy' that 'forms contempt' and 'justifies violence' against Russians. In August 2023, Sokolov was declared wanted. October 14, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow found Yanina Sokolova guilty and sentenced her in absentia to 8 years in a general regime colony. Also, the court prohibited the journalist from administering websites on the Internet for 3 years. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
