Case Description
On April 10, 2023, at the airport in Mineralnye Vody, Stavropol Territory, 28-year-old native of Leningrad Region Vseslav Prokofiev was detained." He was accused of attempted state treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to law enforcement officers, Prokopiev joined the ranks of the nationalist battalion 'Azov', recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization, in April 2023, intending to fly through Mineralnye Vody airport (with a stopover in Turkey) to the territory of Ukraine to participate in hostilities against military personnel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. During an attempt to cross the state border of the Russian Federation, he was detained by FSB officers. The man was sent to a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation. On December 9, 2024, the Southern Military District Court found Vseslav Prokofiev guilty and sentenced the perpetrator to 16 years in a strict regime penal colony, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and with a 1-year restriction of freedom. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
