Case Description

In Mariupol, occupied Donetsk region, no later than April 2022 at the plant named after. 26-year-old Ukrainian citizen Vladislav Veselovsky, commander of a rocket artillery platoon of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fell into captivity with Russian military personnel in Illichevsk. A criminal case was opened against him for cruel treatment of the civilian population in the occupied territory and attempted murder of two or more persons committed by an organized group on the grounds of political and ideological hatred. According to the Russian investigation, from March 20 to April 2, 2022, while on combat duty on the territory of the Azovmash machine-building plant in Mariupol, Veselovsky, together with his comrades-in-arms, received a criminal order to open fire on a car with white ribbons on the rearview mirrors, in which there were four unarmed civilian men who were not participating in the armed conflict. Veselovsky fired multiple aimed shots from automatic weapons at the car, but the civilians in the car's cabin did not enter the zone of impact of the firearms of the aforementioned Ukrainian servicemen, after which they fled the area of fire and took cover in a safe place." 2. On April 8, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Vladislav Veselovsky guilty and sentenced him to 22 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
