Case Description
In the occupied Luhansk region in the area of the Serebryansky forestry in December 2023 (the exact date is unknown), 18-year-old Ukrainian military serviceman Vladislav Plakhotnik was captured. Subsequently, Russian security forces accused him of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. According to the investigation, Plakhotko voluntarily signed a contract for military service in the Ukrainian nationalist paramilitary association "Azov, after which on July 17, 2023, he arrived at the training center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After that, Plakhotnik underwent training in the program of general military training, where he acquired knowledge, practical skills and abilities during classes in physical and psychological training, as well as studying the rules for handling weapons, explosive devices and explosives. Until December 2023, he directly participated in combat operations as part of the aforementioned armed formation on the territory of the "LNR, performing the duties of a driver in the engineering-position section of the engineering-sapper platoon of the special purpose battalion. On May 3, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Vladislav Plakhotnik guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in a strict regime penal colony, with the first 3 years to be served in prison. August 12, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged. On July 4, 2025, Vladislav Plakhotnik was released during the next exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine.
