Case Description
In the Kursk region on November 18, 2024, during hostilities, Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the 17th separate tank brigade - 48-year-old Nikolai Taratuta, 55-year-old Vladimir Zakharchev, 45-year-old Alexander Korolev and 45-year-old Anton Pechera - were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in September-October 2024, Ukrainians armed with automatic weapons, ammunition and grenades, as part of a Ukrainian military unit, invaded the territory of Korenevsky district of the Kursk region. In the village of Olgovka, they equipped observation and fire positions, blocked the settlement, prevented the evacuation of civilians, intimidated them, and also repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians. On June 30, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Vladimir Zakharchev to 17 years in prison, Alexander Korolev to 16 years and 6 months, Anton Pechere to 16 years, and Nikolai Taratuta to 15 years and 6 months. The first 4 years they must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
