Case Description
In Mariupol, in the occupied Donetsk region, on May 16, 2022, during hostilities at the Azovstal plant, 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen, serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine, Azov Regiment, Vladimir Tkhor, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen." Later, a criminal case was opened against him for "participation in a terrorist organization." 2. According to the Russian investigation, Thor joined the "Azov" battalion on November 30, 2019, with the aim of improving his financial situation, as well as for ideological reasons, performed the duties of a grenade launcher assistant, provided cover for a group of infantry during offensive and defensive actions in the village of Urzuf, ensuring the participation of "Azov" in terrorist activities until it was identified by law enforcement agencies." 21 November 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Vladimir Thor guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 6 months in a general regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. On July 4, 2025, Vladimir Tkhora was released during the next exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine.
