Case Description
2024, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen, serviceman of the 47th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladimir Pikhotsky, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on October 14, 2024, Pikhotsky, as part of a unit on the BMP Bradley, illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation in the Glukhovsky district. Armed with an assault rifle and grenades, he was positioned near the village of Veseloye, where he fired at Russian military personnel and civilians, in order to prevent their evacuation." Moreover, he "intimidated peaceful civilians and prohibited them from evacuating in order to keep the settlement under armed control. On July 17, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vladimir Pikhotsky guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. He must spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
