Case Description

1. On February 26, 2023, at 2:45 AM in St. Petersburg, an unknown person broke a window at the military commissariat of the Vyborgsky District and left inscriptions on the first floor wall: "No to war," "Stop killing," and "How much longer can you kill?" That same evening, 25-year-old Vladimir Mironov, a graduate student at the St. Petersburg Academic University, was detained on suspicion of arson. Two criminal cases were immediately opened against him - one for hooliganism due to the broken window at the military enlistment office, and another for "discrediting" the Russian army, resulting in property damage, due to the inscriptions. Two days later, on February 28, the Vyborgsky District Court of St. Petersburg, at the request of the investigation, chose a preventive measure for Mironov in the form of detention. On July 11, 2024, the Vyborgsky District Court of St. Petersburg found Vladimir Mironov guilty and sentenced him to 4 years in a general regime colony. On February 11, 2025, the St. Petersburg City Court reclassified the hooliganism article from part 2 (an act committed with the use of weapons) to part 1, paragraph b (gross violation of public order expressing disrespect for society) and mitigated the punishment - instead of 4 years, 3 years and 4 months. In the part of the crime under the article on "discrediting the army," the court did not change the sentence.
