Case Description

In the Bakhmut area of the Donetsk region of Ukraine, no later than July 15, 2020, Vladimir Masyuk, a citizen of Ukraine, a private of the 120th separate reconnaissance battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, fell into the hands of Russian military personnel." Later, the prisoner of war was accused of espionage. According to Russian security forces, the man planned to carry out an explosion at an ammunition depot, which could have resulted in civilian casualties. During a search of the prisoner of war, allegedly fake documents in another name were found, with which he got a job in the 'people's militia of the DNR'. It is also claimed that Ukrainian special services equipped Masyuk with a hidden video camera built into a lighter for filming objects, as well as a thermos into which an explosive device was subsequently planned to be installed. The case was initially submitted to the Southern District Military Court, but was transferred to another region for jurisdictional reasons, most likely to the occupied Donetsk region. According to unverified information, Vladimir Masyuk is serving his sentence in IK-4 in Horlivka, Donetsk region. The date of the verdict and the amount of punishment are unknown.
