Case Description
17 November 2024, during hostilities in the Kursk region, a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen, soldier of the 17th separate tank brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladimir Kavinsky, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. ACCORDING TO THE RUSSIAN INVESTIGATION, ON OCTOBER 22, 2024, KAVINSKY, AS PART OF A UNIT, ILLEGALLY INVADED THE TERRITORY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION. While in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, he took up the observation and fire position "Solovey" and participated in the armed blockade and holding of the village of Olgovka. September 29, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vladimir Kavinovsky guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, the first 4 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
