Case Description
In Moscow, on June 28, 2018, a 'search' of the premises of 51-year-old local resident and entrepreneur Vladimir Domnin was conducted. As a result, FSB officers allegedly found a Makarov pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition on him. After the search, the man was taken to the police station, where a report on an administrative offense under the article on petty hooliganism was drawn up. According to police reports, Domnin used obscene language in a public place and made offensive advances toward citizens. The next day, on June 29, 2018, Judge Anastasia Loskutova of the Simonovsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Domnina to 7 days of administrative arrest. While Domnin was serving his administrative sentence, security forces conducted an examination of the seized items, and upon leaving the detention facility on July 4, 2018, he was detained on criminal charges of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. On July 6, 2018, Valentina Lutzenko, a judge of the Simonovsky District Court of Moscow, chose a measure of restraint for a Muscovite in the form of detention. Later, in September 2018, March and August 2019, the charges against Domnin were toughened—articles on participation in the activities of an extremist organization and an illegal armed formation, as well as training for the purpose of committing terrorist activities, were added." "According to the investigation, Domnin joined the ranks of the Right Sector, which is banned in Russia, underwent military training, and then participated in the activities of the paramilitary structures of this organization in the zone of the antiterrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, as well as kept a pistol at home. On August 3, 2020, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vladimir Domnin guilty and sentenced him to 8 years 10 months in a strict regime colony with a restriction of freedom for 1 year and 8 months. The court acquitted Domnin in the case regarding undergoing training in terrorist activities and terminated the case about illegal storage of weapons and ammunition due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution. August 30, 2021, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged. On April 12, 2022, the Supreme Court of Russia reduced Domnin's prison sentence by two months in cassation.
