Case Description

On October 1, 2024, in the Kursk region, four Ukrainian citizens were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel: servicemen of the 225th separate assault battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 19-year-old Artem Mironenko, 31-year-old Oleg Patabenko, Vladimir Dobizha, and 41-year-old serviceman of the 103rd separate territorial defense brigade Sergey Kozuba. They were accused of committing terrorist acts, as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy." According to the Russian investigation, in August-October 2024, Mironenko, Patabenko, Dobizha and Kozub, as part of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, illegally crossed the border of Russia on the infantry fighting vehicle "Bradley. While in the cities of Sudzha, Korenevo, and Glushkovo districts, they used weapons to intimidate the local population, occupied private homes, hindered the evacuation of civilians, and repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and peaceful residents. On April 22, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Artem Mironenko to 16 years in prison, and Oleg Patabenko, Vladimir Dobizha, and Sergey Kozub to 15 years each. For the first 3 years, they must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
