Case Description
In Mariupol, the occupied part of the Donetsk region, no later than the end of March 2022, a 56-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a mortar battery technician, a serviceman of the "Azov" regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladimir Baranovskiy, fell into the hands of Russian military. Against him, a criminal case was initiated for participating in the activities of a terrorist community and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. The reason for the criminal prosecution was service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the nationalist "Azov" battalion, recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. On October 7, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Vladimir Baranovskiy guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in a strict regime colony.
