Case Description
On May 9, 2022, in the occupied Luhansk region, 49-year-old Ukrainian citizen Vitaly Zaluzny, a serviceman of the Azov Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was captured by Russian soldiers. Later, a criminal case was opened against him for participating in a terrorist community. According to the Russian investigation, in February 2022, being in Mariupol, Zaluzny voluntarily joined the ranks of the Ukrainian paramilitary nationalist association Azov Regiment, recognized in Russia as a terrorist community. After that, he participated in combat operations "against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics, performing the duties of a shooter in the battalion. On November 6, 2025, the Southern Military District Court found Vilai Zaluzny guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime colony."
