Case Description
In the Kursk region in October 2024, a 51-year-old citizen of Ukraine, senior soldier of the 33rd Separate Assault Battalion of Ukraine Vitaliy Lutchenko, was captured by Russian servicemen. He was accused of committing a terrorist act as part of a group of persons. According to the Russian investigation, in October 2024, Lutsenko, together with other Ukrainian military personnel, illegally invaded Russian territory." "While in the Suzhansky and Korenevsky districts, he used weapons to intimidate local residents, prevented their evacuation, opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians, and also participated in the blockade of Olgovka village. On May 20, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Vitaly Lutzenko guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison. For the first 3 years, he must serve his sentence in prison, and the remaining part of the term in a strict regime penal colony. The sentence was not appealed and entered into legal force.
