Case Description
47-year-old local resident Vera Sidorkina was detained in Yoshkar-Ola no later than May 2024. She was accused of treason and attempted participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, in 2023, Sidorkina corresponded in a messenger with representatives of the 'Freedom of Russia' legion, recognized as a terrorist organization." The woman allegedly offered them her services as a medical and household worker. For this purpose, she filled out a questionnaire and provided her personal data. It is alleged that the woman intended to cross the state border of the Russian Federation with her child to defect to the enemy's side, but was detained by border service officers while attempting to leave the country. In addition, the woman proactively offered cooperation to a representative of the Ukrainian special services, after which she sent him satellite images with the coordinates of the location of defense industry enterprises and objects of the Russian Ministry of Defense. For the duration of the investigation, the Yoshkar-Ola resident was placed in custody. On 20 June 2025, the Central Military District Court found Vera Sidorkina guilty and sentenced her to 18 years' imprisonment in a general regime colony.
