Case Description
44-year-old local resident Vasily Surin was detained in Voronezh no later than August 2024. He was accused of publicly justifying terrorism and publicly calling for extremist activity on the Internet. According to the FSB's version, on July 7, 2023, Surin publicly justified the explosion on the Crimean Bridge on the Internet, as well as called for violent actions against individuals distinguished by their ethnic origin. It is unknown exactly what he said. There is no information about the measure of restraint. On December 23, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vasily Surin guilty and sentenced him to 3.5 years in a general regime penal colony. He was also banned for 4 years from engaging in activities related to administering websites, forums, groups, and chats on the internet. On April 3, 2025, the Appellate Military Court upheld the sentence.
