Case Description
On December 8, 2023, in Belgorod, an unknown person placed two agitation leaflets of the "Legion of Freedom of Russia" in a mailbox on Mokrousova Street. The next day, on December 9, 29-year-old local resident Vasily Pavlov was detained." 1. He was first arrested for 12 days for allegedly using drugs in a public place, and on December 21, a criminal case was opened against Vasily for participating in a terrorist organization. According to the security forces, he allegedly contacted the feedback bot of the 'Legion of Freedom of Russia' because he 'wanted to assist representatives of this organization.'" Later, the charges against Pavlov were toughened — he was additionally charged with treason. On December 10, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vasily Pavlov guilty and sentenced him to 16 years of imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime penal colony, with a restriction of freedom for 1 year. October 15, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
