Case Description
On November 11, 2024, in the Kursk region, Ukrainian citizens who were military personnel of military unit A-4828 (144th Separate Infantry Brigade) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fell into captivity with Russian military personnel: 51-year-old junior sergeant Vasily Patlachuk, assistant grenadier, 55-year-old soldier-driver Petro Voyt, and 33-year-old shooter Roman Romakin. Later, they were accused of committing a terrorist act that resulted in grave consequences, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. According to the Russian investigation, on the night of November 7-8, 2024, Patlachuk, Voyt, and Romakin, armed with automatic weapons and grenades, crossed the state border of the Russian Federation in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region in an armored vehicle. Over the following several days, using the weapons they had, they participated in blocking the village of Olgovka in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region and hindered the evacuation of the civilian population from the combat zone. On May 26, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Vasily Patlachuk and Petro to 15 years of imprisonment, and Roman Romakin to 14 years of imprisonment. The Ukrainians must serve the first 4 years of their sentence in prison, and the remaining part in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into force.
