Case Description
23 October 2024, in the Kursk region, servicemen of the 95th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 43-year-old Oleksandr Titenko and 40-year-old Vasyl Katanyuk, were taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. Later, they were accused of committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in grave consequences. According to the Russian investigation, on 1 October 2024, Titenko and Katanyuk, armed with AK-74 assault rifles and grenades, as part of a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. While in the settlement of Pogrebki in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, the servicemen "illegally occupied private houses, repeatedly opened fire to kill Russian servicemen and local residents." On 19 June 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Oleksandr Titenko and Vasyl Katanyuk to 16 years of imprisonment, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
