Case Description
In Ufa, no later than February 2025, a criminal case was opened for the dissemination of "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred against a 28-year-old local native, journalist of "Dozhd" Valeria Kichigina." "1. The reason for the criminal prosecution was two publications, a post in the journalist's Telegram channel on April 6, 2022, in which Valeria provided a link to Dmitry Kolezev's materials with the comment: "I am duplicating a link to Dima Kolezev's materials here about why the massacre in Bucha cannot be a fake. Because Instagram for some reason no longer allows you to go to it from the app,' and a post on Instagram on August 8, 2023, in the form of a photo collage depicting soldiers and military equipment under the Russian flag with the comment: 'Today is the anniversary of the start of the five-day war in Georgia.'" On the night of August 7-8, Russian troops invaded the country and bombed peaceful cities. For 15 years, 20% of Georgia has been occupied by Russia. Kichigina herself is not in Russia. On March 21, 2025, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Ufa issued a detention order for the case's defendant in absentia. She was also placed on the international wanted list. On June 16, 2025, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Ufa determined the jurisdiction of the case in Moscow and sent it for consideration to the Tagansky District Court of Moscow.
