Case Description
11 March 2025, in the Kursk region, during combat operations, a 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen, a soldier of the 118th separate territorial defence brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vadim Yaremuk, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on February 13, 2025, Yaremaka, armed with an assault rifle and grenades, together with his fellow servicemen, illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation in the Sudzhansky district. After that, he took up an observation and fire position near the khutor of Agronom, from where he "tracked the movement of Russian servicemen, intimidated peaceful residents by using weapons, as well as blocked and held the settlement under armed control." On October 2, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vadim Yaremaku guilty and sentenced him to 17 years of imprisonment, the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
