After being transferred to the Verkhnyaya Ural prison in mid-2023, Abdulgaziev complained twice about his deteriorating condition, the last time in mid-February 2024. At that time, the man could not hold a spoon or step on one of his legs due to pain in his joints and foot. On March 7, 2024, the prisoner's wife learned that he had been sent to a tuberculosis hospital. At that time, doctors assessed his condition as moderate, refusing to name the diagnosis. Two weeks later, the wife was told that Abdulgaziev was now in intensive care in serious condition. On August 6, the judge of the Metallurgical District Court of Chelyabinsk, Anatoly Kalashnikov, rejected the petition for Abdulgaziev's release on health grounds. In the conclusion of the medical commission of the medical unit No. 3 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region, where Abdulgaziev is being treated, it is stated that he 'does not need constant care and treatment in a specialized institution, and can be kept in a correctional institution on general terms,' and his condition is described as stable. According to the lawyer, the conclusion notes that Abdulgaziev has tuberculosis, but a milder stage is indicated, and that he is in remission. The defense side presented to the court evidence that the disease is progressing, that in the conditions of the prison hospital the necessary treatment cannot be obtained by the political prisoner, and that the disease itself is on the list of illnesses that prevent the serving of the sentence. In March 2025, tuberculosis of the lymph nodes was diagnosed. Previously, only his lungs were affected.
