In the Kursk region on April 19, 2025, during hostilities, a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen, a soldier of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Taras Milyan, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on April 17, 2025, Milan, on a Stryker armored personnel carrier, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and grenades, together with his fellow servicemen, illegally crossed the state border of Russia in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. Arrived at firing positions near the village of Oleshnya and "using small arms repelled the advance of Russian servicemen." 2. On October 7, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Taras Milian guilty and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remaining part in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
