Case Description
On October 15, 2023, around 11 PM in Astrakhan, two 19-year-old residents of the city of Svobodny in the Amur region, Daniil Draer and Stepan Korobochka, were detained. In Astrakhan, the young men were on vacation. Protocols on an administrative offense under the article on petty hooliganism were drawn up against them. According to police reports, the young people were using obscene language in Karl Marx Square. 17 October 2023, Judge Yulia Goncharova of the Kirovsky District Court of Astrakhan sent both young men to administrative arrest for 6 days. While Draer and Korobochka served their administrative arrest, a criminal case was opened against them: Stepan was accused of illegal drug trafficking in particularly large quantities, and Daniil of concealing a particularly serious crime. Both young men were placed in a pre-trial detention center. While the investigation into the drug case was ongoing, FSB officers came to Stepan Korobochka in the Astrakhan pre-trial detention center and brought charges against him for committing a terrorist act. According to the security forces' version, in the fall of 2023, Korobochka committed arson at the military enlistment office in Blagoveshchensk. Possibly, this refers to the arson on September 25, 2023 - at night, an unknown person threw two Molotov cocktails at the building of the commissariat on Ostrovsky Street, after which he fled. Immediately one of the bottles went out, and the second one didn't even break. The military enlistment office building was not damaged in any way. On June 3, 2024, the Leninsky District Court of Astrakhan found the defendants guilty in a drug case and sentenced Daniil Draer to a fine of 150 thousand. rubles. Taking into account the time spent in pre-trial detention during the investigation, the court reduced the fine to 100 thousand." rubles. He was released in the courtroom. The court sentenced Stepan Korobochka to 9 years to be served in a strict regime correctional colony. After the verdict, Stepan was transferred to Khabarovsk, where he was also charged with treason. According to Stepan's mother, he may have been pressured in the detention center. I know for sure that there was a beating there, she says. — His ear was running, he couldn't hear with it at first. According to the woman, she passed medicines to her son and spoke with a doctor at the SIZO, but the latter replied that the young man's body was "clean. After that, her son himself told her about the beating during the arrest, but asked her not to complain anywhere, 'or it will be worse.'", On March 12, 2025, the 1st Eastern Military District Court found Stepan Korobochka guilty in a case involving terrorism and state treason, and by combining sentences, sentenced him to 19 years of imprisonment. For the first 3 years of his sentence, Korobochka will have to spend time in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime colony. On June 30, 2025, the Appellate Military Court changed the verdict, details are unknown.
