Case Description
On March 12, 2022, activist and citizen journalist Sergey Tsygipa from Nova Kakhovka disappeared in the Kherson region. He was heading to the Russian army-occupied Tavriisk to deliver medicine to his mother-in-law, after which contact with him was lost. For a long time Tsypina's whereabouts were unknown. In October, it became known that the activist was being held in the Simferopol SIZO. He was accused of espionage. According to the version of the security forces, Tsygipa passed information about the deployment and movement of Russian military personnel to the Security Service of Ukraine. On October 6, 2023, Viktor Sklyarov, a judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea, found Sergey Tsygipa guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in a strict regime colony. On February 13, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence in force.
