Makhno was accused of espionage and incitement to espionage, and Tkachenko of espionage. The exact date of detention is unknown. According to the Russian investigation, Makhno established contact with SBU employees and in August 2022, using a messenger, transmitted information about the location of personnel and military equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation located in Kakhovka. In October 2022, Makhno allegedly again began to find out information about the locations of RF Armed Forces units with the help of Tkachenko. This data was also transmitted to representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ukrainians were sent into custody for the duration of the investigation. November 18, 2024, the Rostov Regional Court found Maxim Makhno and Sergey Tkachenko guilty and sentenced them to 12 years in prison each.
