Case Description
In the occupied Donetsk region, no later than April 2022 (the exact date is unknown), a 26-year-old Ukrainian citizen, junior sergeant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Sergey Skidan, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. Subsequently, he was accused of forcibly seizing power, undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities, and participating in a terrorist organization. According to the Russian investigation, on 7 May 2020, Skidan signed a contract for military service in the terrorist organisation 'Aidar'. During the period from early May to early June 2020 5. underwent special training to acquire skills in handling weapons, explosive devices, explosives, poisonous and other substances and objects that pose a danger. Subsequently, in June 2020, Skidan arrived at an observation post near the village of Starognatovka in the Volnovakha district, located on the territory of the DNR, where he applied the skills, knowledge, and abilities acquired during the aforementioned training. On March 5, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Sergey Skidan guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
