Case Description
In the Kursk region on May 6, 2025, during hostilities, a citizen of Ukraine, a serviceman of the 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Junior Sergeant Sergey Pronin, fell into captivity of Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in May 2025 Pronin, together with other servicemen, illegally crossed the state border on a "Kazak" armored personnel carrier and invaded Russian territory. While near the village of Alekseyevka in the Glukhovsky district of the Kursk region, he and his comrades "blocked the settlement and held the position in order to prevent the advancement of Russian troops." 4. On November 20, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Sergey Pronin guilty and sentenced him to 17 years of imprisonment, the first 5 years of which he must serve in prison, and the remaining part in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
