Case Description
32-year-old Ukrainian citizen, engineer of the thermal automation shop at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Sergey Potynga, was abducted in Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia region, in June 2023. He was accused of participating in a terrorist community, attempting a terrorist act, as well as illegally acquiring and storing explosive devices. According to the Russian investigation, on the instructions of Ukrainian intelligence, from March 2022, Potyng collected information about cars that had access to the territory of the ZNPP. Investigators claim that in May 2023, Potny received a task from a representative of Ukrainian intelligence to eliminate an unnamed law enforcement officer in Energodar. For this, he planted an explosive device under the bottom of the car used by the security forces. However, the explosive device was discovered and neutralized, and Potynga was detained. The court chose Potynga a measure of restraint in the form of detention. On March 26, 2025, the Southern Military Court found Sergey Potynga guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in a strict regime penal colony and a fine of 700 thousand. rubles. On October 29, 2025, the Appellate Military Court increased the sentence by 2 years.
