Moskalenko Sergey Vladimirovich (Moskalenko Sergiy Volodimirovich)

In Berdyansk, occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast, no later than September 2024, a 33-year-old local resident, a Ukrainian citizen with dual Russian citizenship, Sergey Moskalenko, was detained. He was charged with high treason, illegal manufacture and trafficking of explosives or explosive devices, attempted terrorist act, participation in a terrorist group, and undergoing training with the intent to commit terrorist activities.

According to the investigation, in late 2023, Moskalenko agreed to cooperate with Ukrainian intelligence. In July 2024, acting on instructions from a handler, he planned the assassination of a member of the "United Russia" party: the defendant manufactured an explosive device, studied the target's daily routine, and chose a location to plant the bomb, but was unable to carry out the attempted assassination. Law enforcement also allege that Moskalenko surveilled police and court buildings in Berdyansk, filmed parked cars on video, and kept explosives in his apartment, which he had retrieved from a cache in September 2022.

The defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center.

On August 5, 2026, the Southern District Military Court found Sergey Moskalenko guilty and sentenced him to 25 years in prison, with the first 5 years to be served in a prison, and the remainder in a maximum-security penal colony, and a fine of 800,000 rubles.
